Ordered the suspension, with immediate effect, of the validity of visas and e-Visa issued before or on 3 March 2020.

The Indian authorities have ordered the suspension, with immediate effect, of the validity of visas and e-Visa issued before or on 3 March 2020 for all Italian, Chinese, South Korean, Iranian and Japanese citizens who have not yet entered Indian territory. The validity of e-Visa visas and e-Visa issued to those who have travelled to Italy, China, South Korea, Iran or Japan before 1 February 2020 and have not yet entered Indian territory is also suspended. Those who need to travel to India for proven and urgent reasons can contact the Indian Embassy in Rome.

On 26 February the Indian authorities announced that passengers arriving from Italy or having visited Italy since 10 February could be subject to a 14-day quarantine on arrival in India, following checks carried out by the local authorities. In particular, the checks carried out at Indian airports against Italian citizens and travellers coming from or having visited Italy during the 14 days prior to their arrival in India consist of body temperature screening using a thermo-scanner and the completion of a medical self-certification form. In case of detection of symptoms compatible with COVID-19, passengers identified in this way are taken to public hospital facilities in charge of hosting quarantined patients. Please also note that, following new measures adopted by the Indian Ministry of Interior, non-Indian citizens currently present in China and in possession of an Indian visa issued before 05/02/2020 are not allowed to enter India. In cases of proven and valid reasons to travel to India, interested parties may contact the Indian Embassy in Beijing, the Indian Consulates in Shanghai and Guangzhou, for the issuance of a new visa. Visas issued from 06/02/2020 are valid for entry into India. Non-Indian citizens who have been in China since 15/01/2020 are not allowed to enter India. These measures do not apply in the case of mere airport transit through China.
