Why you should get your document legalized
Legalizing a document makes your certificate legally valid for use in the destination Country.
The process of document legalization certifies the legal capacity and authenticity of the functionary that signs your document.
With A&P legalization and apostille services Italy:
- We help verify the formal validity of your document for use in the relevant destination country, based on the applicable legalization, Apostille or consular legalization rules
- We assess whether a translation is required and whether it must be sworn, certified, legalized, or accepted by the destination authority
- We prove your document is legalized following applicable laws

The legalization of Italian or foreign documents is necessary to make them legally valid abroad. Sometimes, international agreements do not require you to apply for it. Learn if you are exempted from legalizing your document. For certain public documents exchanged between EU Member States, Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 may remove the need for legalization or Apostille

Types of Document Legalization
Based on the type of document and the destination Country, you might need to apply for a full legalization process, or just an apostille. This will change the duration and cost of the service.
Specifically
You can request the Apostille on a document only if both countries (issuing and receiving countries) signed the Hague Convention on the Apostille.
For example: a document issued in Italy to be used in the United States will have to be apostilled.
On the other hand, you will have to request a consular legalization at the foreign Embassies located in Italy.
For example: a document issued in Italy to be used in the UAE will have to be legalized at the UAE Embassy in Rome.
What you need to get your document legalized
To legalize your document, you should first check:
- If you have the original document to legalize*
- The country for which the document should be legalized
- If the document needs to be translated
*in some cases, we can verify if a copy of the document to legalize is enough.
The type of document and the Issuing Authority are other factors that may change the cost and time to get your document legalized.
What if I don’t have the original document to legalize?
Don’t worry! Arletti & Partners can also help you apply and get the original document in case you do not have it.
