Learn current entry requirements in Germany to plan a safe business trip.
As of June 11, 2022, most of the travel restrictions in Germany are no longer active. However, there are still important requirements. For example, people coming from foreign countries might need to comply with different regulations if their country is listed as an area of variants of concern. Specific entry requirements also apply to travellers coming from “an area in which a variant of concern threatens to emerge”. The requirements mostly apply to obligations to provide proof, register and quarantine. In some places it is still mandatory to wear a face mask.

1. Entry requirements in Germany
The German Coronavirus Entry Regulation regulates the obligations to register, quarantine and furnish a 3G proof, as well as an entry ban, for persons who, within the last 10 days, stayed in an area classified as an area of variants of concern at the time of the entry in Germany. Specific entry requirements also apply to travellers coming from “an area in which a variant of concern threatens to emerge”.
All other travellers can enter the Country for all travel purposes, including tourism, without restrictions.
2. Germany 3G rule
All persons who, within the last 10 days, stayed in an area classified as an area of variants of concern at the time of their entry in Germany, must submit a negative test result of a covid-19 PCR test, taken 48 hours prior to entry.
All travellers coming from “an area in which a variant of concern threatens to emerge”, must submit a negative result of a PCR or an antigen test, taken 48 hours prior to entry. In addition, travellers may be subjected to random testing upon entry.
As of June 11, 2022 travellers coming from all other Countries, regardless of their epidemiological situation and of the means of transport, are no longer required to submit a certificate of a negative test result, a vaccination certificate or a recovery certificate (the so-called 3G according to the German Regulation).
3. Isolation conditions in Germany
Only travellers coming from, or that have been in the past 10 days prior to entry into an area of variants of concern, must self-isolate for 14 days. However, they have the possibility to end the isolation period sooner under certain circumstances.
Exemptions to the quarantine period apply to transit travellers and in other specific situations.
4. Entry registration form
The obligation to provide evidence of entry registration form does not apply anymore, even for travellers who come from an area of variants of concern. However, we invite you to be always up to date with entry requirements, since they may change with very little notice.
5. Do I need a face mask in Germany?
Although most covid restrictions have been lifted, it is still mandatory to wear a FFP2 mask in some places in Germany, such as hospitals, doctor’s practices and similar. In addition, to access hospitals and care facilities a covid-19 test is also required.
