In fact, there are three possible ways to submit the declaration of presence, depending on the above-mentioned criteria.
Once assessed that the travelers must submit the declaration of presence in person, A&P will arrange an in-person meeting at the competent police office.

As a result of the meeting, the traveler will receive the sealed declaration of presence document, that they must carry with them throughout their stay.
The declaration of presence can be regarded as a temporary residence permit for Italy. Its purpose is notifying the Italian authorities of the arrival of foreigners in the country.
Failure to comply with the declaration of presence requirement in Italy is punishable by a fine ranging from €5.000 to €10.000.
Furthermore, in case the declaration is submitted beyond eight days from entry or in case of overstay, the Italian immigration authorities may proceed to order expulsion from Italy.
