Who is this service for?
This service is designed for individuals and families moving to Italy who need to provide proof of health insurance as part of their visa application.
It is particularly relevant for applicants planning to stay in Italy for more than 90 days, including those applying for an Elective Residence Visa, Digital Nomad or Remote Worker Visa, or Study Visa. However, it is also suitable for people who don’t need a visa to come to Italy.
What does the service consist of?
The service includes a preliminary assessment of the applicant’s visa category and a review of the health insurance requirements applicable to the specific case.
Studio A&P supports applicants to obtain a suitable insurance policy, in partnership with our external provider Feather. We guide you through the policy set up and make sure the insurance meets the key elements such as territorial validity, duration of cover and any minimum insured amount requested for the specific case.
When is health insurance required?
Health insurance may be required when applying for several types of Italian visas, especially where the applicant intends to stay in Italy for a long period.
For long-stay visa applications, the insurance policy is not only a healthcare document. It is part of the broader immigration compliance review, as the applicant must generally show that medical expenses will be covered from the beginning of the stay in Italy.
Which visa types commonly require health insurance?
Health insurance is often relevant for applicants applying for the following Italian visa categories:
Elective Residence Visa (ERV) – Applicants for an ERV are generally required to provide evidence of adequate private medical coverage for Italy.
Digital Nomad and Remote Worker Visa – Health insurance is also a key requirement for applicants under the Italian Digital Nomad and Remote Worker framework.
Study Visa – Students applying for an Italian Study Visa are also commonly required to provide proof of health insurance.
How to proceed?
As a first step, our team will identify the visa category and the competent consulate handling the application. Accordingly, we will advise on the insurance policy needed considering the applicable visa requirements. Particular attention will be paid to the wording of the policy, the covered territory, the effective dates, and the type of medical benefits included.
As a final step, we will advise clients on how to directly purchase their policy quickly and efficiently, directly online.
