Renewal of habitual residence declaration in Italy

We submit the habitual residence declaration on your behalf

Case assessment

During the consultation, our experts will advise whether you are required to submit the declaration of habitual residence renewal.

The criteria assessed during the consultation will include:

  • Your nationality and the purpose of your stay in Italy
  • The type of residence permit you are holding
  • Your family composition
  • The Italian Municipality where you are registered as a resident

Application submission

Once assessed that you must submit the declaration of habitual residence renewal, our consultants will support with the submission.

The applicable procedure depends on the Municipality of residence. Usually, it is possible to submit the request online, uploading the renewed permit or residence card. Alternatively, it is possible to book an appointment for requesting the updated at the counter.

Failure to comply

The renewal of the declaration of habitual residence must take place within 60 days of the renewal of the permit or residence card, pursuant to article 7, paragraph 3 of Presidential Decree No. 223/1989.

Failure to renew the declaration, six months after the expiry of the residence permit, may expose foreigners to be subject to cancellation from the civil registry of the resident population.

Pursuant to article 11, paragraph 1, of Presidential Decree No. 223/1989, in case of missed declaration, the authorities shall invite the applicant to regularize their position within 30 days, under penalty of cancellation from the civil registry.
Cancellation from the civil registry has consequences on multiple levels; for instance, it may compromise future citizenship applications.
