Failure to register with AIRE can result in administrative sanctions for Italian citizens.
Italian citizens expatriating abroad usually have up to 90 days to complete the AIRE registration procedure. AIRE enrolment cannot be retroactive.

How can I enroll my child in AIRE?
For minors born in Italy of parents residing abroad, enrolment takes place together with the registration of the birth. The Italian Comune will inform the consular registry of the child’s registration. Minors born abroad of parents residing abroad, on the other hand, are registered when the birth certificate is transcribed in Italy. If, on the other hand, the birth certificate has already been transcribed in the Italian Municipality, you can proceed via the FAST-IT portal.
Can people enrolled in AIRE have their Italian health card?
People enrolled in AIRE generally loose their right to Italian healthcare assistance (with partial exceptions).
