New minimum wage in France
In France, the minimum wage increases yearly in order to guarantee an alignment with people’s purchasing capacity and to move in step with the Country economic development. This increase, set by decree and on the basis of the SMIC expert group report, foresees a consultation with the social parties, which took place on Friday, December 12.
The parameters which determine the increase are:
- Inflation
- Wage growth
It appears that wages have increased by 2% (on an hourly basis) while overall prices increased by 0.8%. As anticipated, the increase of people’s purchasing capacity determined the SMIC increase too, set at +1.18%.
Starting from January 1st, people regularly working in France on a temporary or permanent basis must earn at least an hourly gross salary of 12,02 euros (compared to 11,88€ set in November 2024). Consequently, the monthly gross salary is set at 1823,03€, with a net wage of at least 1443,11 per month.
National Applicability
The wage update is valid in mainland France, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin and Saint Pierre and Miquelon.
On the contrary, Mayotte always represented a specific case: from January 1st, their minimum wage must reach 87.5% of the new minimum wage set in the mainland France. Thus, people working in Mayotte will receive a gross hourly wage of at least €9,33.
