Summary

From 1 November 2026, China extends the maximum stay for eligible APEC Business Travel Card holders from 60 to 90 days. Employers should check card validity, pre-clearance for China and whether the planned activities require separate immigration arrangements.

From 1 November 2026, the longer stay limit provides additional flexibility for travellers using the APEC business mobility scheme.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that, from 1 November 2026, the maximum stay for APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders increases from 60 to 90 days.

The ABTC is available to business travellers who meet the scheme’s eligibility requirements. In fully participating economies, holders granted pre-clearance for their destination can make business visits without a separate visa application. Holding an ABTC does not automatically provide identical entry rights across all participating economies.

What employers should check

The increased limit can help businesses plan longer visits for employees using the ABTC to enter China. Before departure, check the card’s validity, pre-clearance for China, passport details and proposed activities.

Where an assignment involves machinery installation, maintenance or other operational services, the appropriate immigration arrangements should be assessed separately.
