New minimum wage in France

During his general policy speech, current French Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced an extraordinary increase in the minimum wage (SMIC). This increase adds to the usual annual increase, typically implemented in January each year.

Following the issuance of Decree No. 2024-951 on 23rd October 2024, starting from 1st November 2024, the SMIC will rise by 2% compared to the last increase introduced in January 2024, when the minimum hourly wage was set at €11.65. As a result, workers will be entitled to a minimum gross hourly wage of €11.88.

This adjustment will mean that the gross monthly salary for a worker employed for 35 hours per week will amount to at least €1,802.26.

Consequently, the minimum net monthly wage will increase from €1,398.70 (as of January 2024) to €1,426.68 (as of November 2024). Thus, workers earning the minimum wage will be entitled to a net monthly increase of €27.98.

The minimum wage increase also affects workers temporarily posted to France.
