The INL Central Commission convened for the 2024 activity report

Following the latest meeting of the Central Coordination Commission for Inspection Activities, held on March 31, 2025, data from 2024 showed a 59% increase in inspections and a 126% increase in health and safety checks in the workplace compared to 2023. 

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the National Labor Inspectorate (Ispettorato Nazionale del Lavoro, INL), in the presence of:

• INL Director Danilo Papa
• Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Labor Mauro Nori
• Director of the Central Inspection Directorate Aniello Pisanti

and representatives from:

• INPS
• INAIL
• the Revenue Agency
• the Polizia di Stato
• the Carabinieri
• the Guardia di Finanza
• trade union organizations. 

What these results mean

The results from this 2024 report can be considered extraordinary and indicative of the work carried out by the inspection body across Italy.

The 46,985 inspections conducted resulted in a recorded irregularity rate of 74%, revealing significant violations in many businesses. 

The increase in inspections in Italy aligns with the heightened levels of oversight observed in other EU Countries (see Slovenia, for instance) which aim to foster cooperation among authorities to curb serious violations of labor law as much as possible. 

Last year, the INL itself actively promoted a culture of regular and safe work, with a significant increase in meetings between workers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students aimed at raising awareness in the field. 

At the end of the meeting, Director Aniello Pisanti presented the plan for the 2025 calendar year, with the primary objective of intensifying health and safety inspections in the workplace and combating undeclared work and workers exploitation.
