Skip to content Italy published, in Official Gazette no. 302 of December 31, 2025, Decree Law No. 201 of December 31, 2025. The decree contains – among other provisions – arrangements for the renewal of residence permits held by Ukrainian citizens in Italy.
Implications for Ukrainian nationals living in Italy
The decree law concerns residence permits for special protection, renewed pursuant to Article 7, paragraph 3, of Decree-Law No. 20 of March 10, 2023, converted, with amendments, by Law No. 50 of May 5, 2023, No. 50.
Based on the decree, Ukrainians living in Italy prior to February 2024 can further renew their permits. The renewal is until March 4, 2027.
At the same time, Italy grants the extension of temporary protection until the same date to their compatriots displaced from Ukraine, in accordance with the provisions of the Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/1460 of the Council of the European Union of July 15, 2025.
Stay permit renewal procedures
Applicants shall submit the residence permit renewal request to the police headquarter of the city where the citizen is domiciled. The authorities will issue the permit in electronic format and free of charge.
