A&P Procedure

  • Send us your request: we offer a video consultation call
  • You will receive the list of documents and can send us your documents
  • We request the birth certificate from the competent Italian municipality or coordinate with the relevant foreign authority where the service scope includes foreign documents
  • We translate and legalize the document where required
  • You can download a copy of the document remotely using the A&P software or have it delivered to your preferred address

Why requesting a birth certificate?

During the consultation video-call, our experts will assess whether you meet the requirements to obtain a birth certificate.

In Italy, it is important that your birth certificate be registered with the relevant municipality. Italian citizens born abroad are also required to register their birth certificate in the Italian registry. Italian citizens born abroad may be required to register their birth certificate in the Italian civil status records. However, the transcription of a birth certificate and the assessment of Italian citizenship status or eligibility must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, especially for minors born abroad, in light of the 2025 citizenship law updates and the requirements of the competent Italian authority.

A birth certificate can be useful for those who need to complete immigration procedures for themselves or their family members, register their residency, or apply for Italian citizenship.

Assistance in choosing the correct certificate type

Our consultants will assist you in choosing the certificate to request. For example, in Italy there are three different types of documents:

  • the birth certificate
  • the birth act
  • the birth extract.

Starting from 31 March 2026, users with SPID, CIE or CNS may download certain civil status certificates and request extracts through ANPR for digitally formed records relating to birth, marriage and civil union, where the applicable conditions are met and the record is available in digital format.

Therefore, it is always best to request the correct document. Obtaining the wrong document could cause delays or problems with your immigration or administrative procedures.

Assistance with certificate legalization

Our consultants will guide you through the legalization process for your birth certificate.

Depending on the issuing country and the destination country, a birth certificate may require legalization, Apostille, translation, or may benefit from exemptions under EU rules or international conventions.

The legalization process may require certification from the diplomatic or consular representation abroad, except in cases where international conventions exempt from legalization apply.
