- Have a valid passport
- Be a family member of an EU citizen legally residing in Italy (i.e.: spouse, registered partner, child, dependent parent)

Processing time for the Italian stay permit for non-eu family members
The processing times for the visa and residence permit obtainment are established by Italian immigration law and by the standard procedures of the competent authorities.
- Phase 1: Document Collection and Verification (5–15 days)
- Phase 2: Visa Issuance (minimum 15 days; some consulates may take up to 30 days)
- Phase 3: Residence Permit Application (within 8 days after arrival in Italy)
- Phase 4: Fingerprint Appointment (depending on the availability of the competent Immigration Office)
- Phase 5: Residence Permit Issuance (approximately 30 days after the fingerprint appointment)
The timeline may vary according to the specific case, the complexity of documents and the authorities involved.
