On 19 June 2026, the Japanese Government approved a revision of the decree setting visa application fees.

Under the revised rules, the fee for a single-entry visa will increase from JPY 3,000 to JPY 15,000. The fee for a multiple-entry visa will increase from JPY 6,000 to JPY 30,000.

The new fees are expected to apply to visa applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the revision takes into account inflation and exchange rate changes, as the current amounts had been set in 1978.

Foreign nationals planning to apply for a Japanese visa should verify the applicable fee with the competent Japanese Embassy or Consulate before submitting their application.
