New provisions on the conversion of driving licences issued in the UK

On December 31^st, 2020, the transition period during which it was possible to continue to apply the existing EU legislation to British licences ended.

From January 1^st , 2021, however, the provisions for non-EU licences will be applied to British licences. It will therefore no longer be possible to accept applications for conversion, except for applications submitted by 31/12/2020.

The Ministry also informs that negotiations are already underway with the British authorities in order to re-establish, for conversion purposes, the mutual recognition of driving licences between Italy and the United Kingdom.

Update: the Agreement between Italy and UK on the mutual recognition of driving licences has been ratified.
