General requirements
In most cases, the DoV can be requested by the interested party or their delegate. Generally, the DoV can be requested for study or work purposes.
The general requirements for requesting the DoV are:
- Being in possession of the original degree diploma
- Have the document duly legalized or apostilled
- Translate the document into Italian
- In case the DoV is required for work reasons, consulates usually need a letter of intent from the future employer, confirming his willingness to hire the worker in Italy.
- Further documentation, to be verified from time to time with the competent consulate or embassy

Timing
The processing time depends largely on the workload of the Italian diplomatic mission abroad.
The possibility of expediting the process is at the discretion of the consular office; sometimes, “expedited” procedures exist, which can be used by paying a higher consular fee.
