On May 16, 2022, the Ministry of Health published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 113 the Ordenance of May 9, 2022 containing the ‘Guidelines for the prevention of the diffusion of COVID-19 in construction sites’, whose obligations must be followed by employers, workers, self-employed persons, technicians and all the people involved, starting from its publication date until December 31, 2022.

Employers must take all necessary measures to ensure the best possible working conditions: from workers’ health to the cleanliness and hygiene of the environment.
The employer shall inform all workers of the measures taken by the authorities to prevent the spread of the virus, making them aware of their obligations to comply with the provisions for access to the construction site and to promptly notify the employer of the occurrence of any symptoms related to COVID-19.
The contractor also defines how to inform all other parties who have access to the construction site.
It is also compulsory to wear personal protective equipment – masks – both for workers and for suppliers or external people who enter the site and have close contact for more than 15 minutes in the workplace.
If a worker informs the employer (or safety coordinator) of the occurrence of flu symptoms, isolation is carried out, as established by the health authority. Cleaning and sanitising of rooms, quarters, and tools with which the person has come into contact is then carried out.
The responsible doctor, in cooperation with the employer and the safety coordinator, integrates and proposes all measures related to COVID-19. The doctor also reports any situations of fragility among employees to the employer in order to apply the necessary protection measures.
